# Scheduling Sessions > [!info] Scheduled Sessions require a paid subscription. Want your sessions to begin automatically every day? Create a Schedule to plan your focused work routines in advance. You can schedule a single session or bundle multiple presets to start at a specific time and day(s). You can access your schedule from the **menu bar dropdown** or, if the main window is open, by clicking the **calendar icon** in the top-left corner. Either option opens the weekly calendar, where you can customize sessions for each day of the week. ## Creating a Scheduled Select a day from the sidebar. Click **“Schedule a Session…”** to create a new session for that day. ![[CleanShot 2026-07-20 at [email protected]]] ## Naming Your Schedule Give your session a clear, descriptive name, like “Morning Writing Routine”. ## Choosing Days and Start Time You can assign the session to run on multiple days by selecting any combination of weekdays. For example, choose Monday through Friday to have the same session run each workday, no need to recreate it five times. You’ll notice there’s no end time. That’s because each step within your session has a duration, and if using the [[Choosing a Timer|Engagement Timer]] each step may take longer depending on your focus and breaks. ![[CleanShot 2026-07-20 at [email protected]]] *If you change the start time of a scheduled session after it has already run or completed, the change won’t take effect until the next day. If you want to restart that session today, you’ll need to create a new one manually.* ## Adding Steps to Your Schedule **Scheduled Sessions** are made up of one or more steps, each step can be either a **[[Creating Presets|Preset]]** or a **break**. - Click the **“+”** button to add a preset as a step. - Use the **“–”** button to remove one. - Drag and drop steps to rearrange them. Each step automatically runs after the previous one completes, allowing you to create a well-organized, step-by-step workflow for your day. ![[CleanShot 2026-07-20 at [email protected]]] ## Adding Breaks to Your Schedule > [!info] All Breaks use the Standard Timer, which will never pause due to inactivity. > Breaks are a great way to structure your day with intentional pauses, whether you want to recharge or reward yourself before jumping back into focus. You can insert **Breaks** into your scheduled session just like any other step. Adding breaks in between presets is a great way to create a custom [[Using the Pomodoro Technique|Pomodoro-type schedule.]] Click the **“+”** button and choose **Break** to add it to your routine. Breaks are categorized into two types: ### Allow All Grants full access to all apps and websites during the break. ### Block All Blocks access to all apps during the break. This type of break encourages you to fully step away from your computer. > [!Tip] > You can also create custom breaks by setting up a Task with a specific allowlist or blocklist. ## Allowing a Schedule to End Early Just like [[Sessions On-Demand]], you have the option to decide whether a schedule can end early, and if so, how. This flexibility allows you to determine the level of commitment you want to maintain regarding your scheduled focus time. ![[CleanShot 2026-07-20 at [email protected]]] ### Any time (default): You can end the session whenever you like. ### If another session is due: Only allows you to end the session early if another scheduled session is about to begin. For example, if your current session is still running at 3:00 PM and a scheduled session is set to start at that time, you’ll be allowed to end the active session once that new session becomes eligible to begin. ### By typing a phrase: To end the session early, you must type the phrase _“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”_ a set number of times. This adds friction and helps prevent quitting impulsively. To end an active session early, open the menu bar, hover over the active session, and select end session. ## Scheduling and Unscheduling Once you’ve built your session, click **Schedule** to have it start automatically on your selected days and time. > [!info] All unfinished sessions will automatically cancel at midnight, giving you a fresh start each day.]  ![[CleanShot 2026-07-20 at [email protected]]] ## View Upcoming Schedules Upcoming scheduled sessions will appear in the **menu bar dropdown**, so you can easily see what’s coming up next. From here, you can monitor your current session, preview upcoming ones, or pause, skip, and cancel (if allowed). It’s a quick way to see your progress without opening the main app window. ![[CleanShot 2026-07-21 at [email protected]|518]] ## Unschedule Sessions If you want to **temporarily disable** the session without deleting it, click **Unschedule.** This saves the session but prevents it from automatically starting again until you reschedule it. ![[CleanShot 2026-07-20 at [email protected]]] ## Locking a Schedule Locking a schedule adds an extra layer of accountability by making it tamper-proof. This ensures that your future inner saboteur won’t be able to escape your commitment. We recommend keeping your session **unlocked** for at least a week to make sure the timing and structure support your workflow. This gives you space to adjust things before making a final commitment. ![[CleanShot 2026-07-20 at [email protected]]] When locking a session, you can choose an unlock date and assign the phrase count to unlock the schedule early. Until that date: - The session **cannot** be modified. - To unlock the schedule early, you must type "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” the assigned amount of times. ![[CleanShot 2026-07-20 at [email protected]]] ## Modifying or Deleting an Active Schedule If you no longer need a scheduled session, you can permanently delete it by clicking **Delete**. ![[CleanShot 2026-07-20 at [email protected]]] If you attempt to edit settings such as the timer type, the “Allow me to end this session early” option, or delete a scheduled session that is currently active, the changes won’t take immediate effect. Instead, the existing session will continue with its original settings. Your modifications will only be applied after the the session ends. ## Scheduling Multiple Schedules You can create multiple schedules throughout the day for various tasks. Each schedule has its own start time and assigned days, and it will automatically begin at the scheduled time. ![[CleanShot 2026-07-21 at [email protected]]] ## When Scheduled Sessions Overlap If one session runs longer than expected and overlaps with another, the next Scheduled Session will begin as soon as the current one ends. However, if you’ve enabled [[#Allowing a Schedule to End Early|“If another Session is due,”]] the current session will end early, ensuring your day stays on schedule. ## Planning with the Engagement Timer in Mind When adding steps that use the [[Choosing a Timer|Engagement Timer,]] it’s important to understand how this impacts your overall schedule: - The Engagement Timer only counts active time. - If you step away or pause frequently, a Scheduled Session may take longer than expected. - This can delay the start of the next schedule. If maintaining a strict schedule is crucial, you should opt for [[#If another session is due|"If another session is due"]] This choice allows you to end the current schedule if another one is scheduled, ensuring that the next one begins promptly.
