# Active Sessions
When a session starts, apps and websites will be allowed or blocked according to your selected [[Creating Presets|preset]], helping you stay focused by minimizing distractions.
A **countdown timer** will appear in your menu bar, providing a quick overview of your remaining time and ensuring that your session stays on track.

If you prefer a more comprehensive visual that displays active, idle, and total time, you can enable the [[Floating Timer]] to provide a clearer overview of your progress at a glance.
A session will end once the timer runs for the duration you selected. If you’re using the Engagement Timer, the timer will automatically pause when no activity is detected and resume when you become active again. The timer will turn red when it’s paused due to inactivity, and yellow when a [[Pause Credits|pause credit]] is used.
## Ending an Active Session Early
To end an active session early, open the menu bar, hover over the active session, and select **"End Session"** Depending on your settings, the session will either end immediately, require you to type a phrase (like _“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”_ 50 times), or allow ending only when another scheduled session is due.

> Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. You can still exit with a bit of built-in friction.
> [[Learn/Additional Features/Cancel All Sessions]] ensures you’re never truly locked out, while still encouraging commitment to your focus goals.
## All Active and Incomplete Sessions End Automatically at Midnight.
All unfinished sessions cancel automatically at midnight, giving you a clean slate each day. This daily reset encourages fresh momentum and helps you stay focused without dragging yesterday’s tasks into today.
## Pause or Skip an Active Session
While a session is active, you can easily **pause** or **skip** a session (or a single step in a schedule). To pause an active session, open the menu bar, hover over the active session, and select **"Pause Session"**. To skip an entire scheduled session or active step, select **"Skip Schedule"** or **"Skip Step"** respectively.
##### Pause Session
If you’ve enabled the [[Pause Credits]] feature in Settings, you can pause your session up to 5 minutes at a time, with a maximum of 5 pauses per day. However, you can modify your credit limit, the duration of the pause, and even the delay period before the pause starts. This is perfect if you need a quick break without ending your focus session entirely.
##### Skip All or Individual Steps in a Scheduled Session
If you’ve enabled the [[Skip Credits (schedules only)]] feature in Settings, you can skip **all steps** once a day and **individual steps** twice a day. However, you can modify each credit pool in Settings.
> [!warning] Finalize preferences before your session starts
> Pause and Skip settings cannot be changed once a session is active. Plan ahead or adjust the next day.
